Twenty-three years ago, on July 4th 1990 I signed my first retainer agreements. That marked the beginning of my Independence Day and the beginning of a journey that has allowed me, Ellen, and our legal team to serve thousands of clients over the years. It has also allowed Oppenheim Law to speak freely about various issues including over the past several years about the state of real estate foreclosure and its impact on the economy and the community.
As some of you may know, I have over the years discussed why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year, but truth be known the 4th of July is also my favorite holiday. The holiday gives me a chance to reflect on the core values of our great nation. The holiday also gives me a chance to thank YOU my clients, friends and readers for all the support we have received over the years. For without the encouragement and reinforcement you give me, it would have been nearly impossible to be the voice for those less heard.
This 4th of July I hope you will take a moment to reaffirm with me the fundamental values of free speech, due process, privacy, and the right to property. Every day these rights seem to be challenged and it will be up to each of us to stand vigilantly and make sure that expediency is never a reason to sacrifice the baby for the bath water. Whether we are dealing with rocket dockets or over-zealous NSA data collectors we must always keep in mind what has distinguished America from the rest of the world. We must always be able to hold our heads up high and be proud to be Americans for we stand true to the constitution for which it stands.
